It's not so much a utensil as a gentle reminder that some traditions are best preserved...preferably with a spot of salt.
This traditional handcrafted pewter salt spoon is made in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, by ASL Pewter. The handle features a feather design.
What is pewter?
Pewter is one of the oldest known alloys, dating back to the Bronze Age. A tin-based alloy consisting of at least 90% tin and 1-3% each of silver, copper, bismuth, or antimony, this is a 100% lead-free product, making it suitable for use with food and beverages.
Does pewter tarnish?
Pewter will not tarnish the same way as copper or silver will. The metal will oxidize at a slow rate, which results in a rich patina. This patina is considered a valuable enhancement to your pewter, and shows the piece has been lovingly used.
Care for your pewter
After each use, wash your pewter in warm, soapy water, rinse well and dry it immediately with a soft cloth. Do not put pewter in the dishwasher or the microwave. Pewter dishes cannot be used over an open flame or the oven. With this simple care, your pewter will give you years of use and enjoyment.
